Who We Are.
-
Dr. Liz Norell is a licensed clinical social worker with more than 20 years of experience working with survivors of trauma as a clinician, supervisor, consultant, and academic.
Her compassionate yet firm, solution-oriented approach is life-changing and has brought many clients to health and healing.
Taking an intersectional, anti-oppressive approach integrating narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and creative approaches such as sandtray, art, and play therapy, she worked with children with exposure to violence for many years before turning her focus to adult survivors of child abuse and neglect, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and other forms of oppression.
Dr. Norell has published over 60 peer reviewed journal articles, given more than 100 academic presentations and workshops, served as an expert witness, and worked with close to 200 clients in direct practice. She has a strong dedication to each client, student, research participant, and supervisee, believing in each person’s inherent capacity for growth and change if, when, and how they choose.
-
Integrity, creativity, and empathy shape the way we work. These aren't just words—they’re the foundation of everything we do.
-
We offer individual, group, and family therapy to adults of any gender identity struggling with stress, depressive symptoms, anxiety, relationship conflict, and sexual health and wellbeing.
Dr. Norell provides expert witness consultation in sexual assault, domestic violence, foster care, mental health, trauma, and related topics; clinical consultation for mental health clinicians worldwide; and clinical supervision for licensed social workers in the state of Maryland.
